Welcome! At Motion Center Yoga we offer in-person and online Iyengar Yoga classes for all ages, body types and abilities. New students are always welcome. We use skillful instruction, thoughtful sequencing, and props to guide you safely, addressing health issues and avoiding injury. Alignment, body/breath awareness, relaxation, and yoga philosophy are important aspects of each class. 

Iyengar Yoga is known for its methodical and personal approach to Hatha Yoga. It is a powerful practice that will help you feel better by improving your strength, flexibility, and overall sense of wellbeing.

New Students

If you are new to Iyengar Yoga, we recommend you start with our 4-week Iyengar Foundations Series. You will learn the fundamentals of Iyengar yoga, including principles of alignment, how to use the props, and how to develop your concentration and self awareness. Classes are designed to increase your strength, flexibility, and awareness, and reduce stress. With an emphasis on standing poses, you will build your stamina and confidence. Modifications are given when needed. Each class includes postures, philosophy, breath-work, and relaxation. All ages, body types, and abilities are welcome.

Foundations and Level 1 are a good place to start. Read the Class Descriptions to find the class
that best meets your needs.

Absolutely. Iyengar Yoga is a great fit for everyone because it is adaptable. We meet you where you are,
using modifications and props to make postures more accessible. Over time, you will improve your
strength, flexibility, and stamina.

Please arrive a few minutes early to check in with your teacher and fill out our New Student Form/Waiver. Your teacher can answer any questions and give you a brief orientation. Make sure to let her know if you have any health issues or concerns.

• Avoid eating a full meal two hours before yoga.
• Wear comfortable clothing. Layers are recommended if you get hot when active or cold when relaxing.
• Avoid wearing perfumes or scented body/hair products because of allergies.
• Be aware you’ll be removing socks and footwear: Yoga is practiced barefoot.
• Our yoga studio is fully equipped with props and yoga mats, but we recommend bringing your own mat.
• We have a screened changing area and just a short walk down the hallway from our studio, you’ll find
restrooms and filtered water.

Our studio is located minutes from the East Side of Providence in a historic mill right off of I- 95, at the Broadway/Cottage St. Exit.

Our studio includes both an entry/changing area for shoes, bags and coats and a spacious practice room. Restrooms and filtered water are just a short walk down the hall from the studio. We are located in a historic mill and therefore it is recommended to wear layers if you tend to get hot or cold.

There is lots of on-street parking, as well as two parking lots on the side and the back of the building.
