Iyengar Yoga Foundations Series
In-person only. This 4-week series is recommended for students new to the Iyengar method. Each class includes postures, philosophy, breathwork, and relaxation. All ages, body types, and abilities are welcome.
You don’t have to be flexible to do yoga.
In fact, Iyengar yoga is especially suited for stiff bodies because it is adaptable. We don’t teach the “final” posture right away. We teach the postures in stages and use props and modifications as needed so that stiffer bodies can find a way to practice. We meet you where you are. Our teachers are skillful in tailoring the practice to each student so that you can enjoy its many benefits.
Iyengar Yoga Foundations is designed to increase your strength, flexibility, and awareness, and to help relieve stress.
With an emphasis on standing postures, you will build your stamina and confidence. Gentle forward bends, twists, and backbends are also introduced. You will learn the fundamentals of Iyengar yoga, including principles of alignment, how to use the props, and how to develop your concentration and self awareness. Personal attention, feedback, and modifications are given throughout each class.
Another important aspect of Iyengar Yoga Foundations is learning how to reduce stress.
Classes are sequenced to quiet your nervous system. Restorative postures are taught at the end of every class with step-by-step guidance in relaxation and breathing techniques. Basic principles of yoga philosophy are introduced to support your journey to better health and well-being.
